All of these indie games are expected to release in 2021 but given the delays so many games saw in 2020 don’t be surprised if at least a few of these see their release dates pushed back. This list is nowhere near comprehensive, and there are sure to be other amazing indie games coming in 2021 , but these are some of the most exciting games coming this y

Windjammers is one of the greatest competitive arcade games that never got the recognition it deserved. Released back in 1994, the now defunct Data East brought this NEOGEO arcade sports game to the masses and it is really great. The controls are incredibly tight, the gameplay is fast-paced and fun, and the pixelated visuals are indicative of the era with its bright and colorful style. But it doesn’t seem like the disc-slinging sport ever really took

What makes a great video game cat? Some of the best cats in games are adorable, but that doesn’t mean there is no place for the creepy and evil cats of the video game world. The best cats in video games make an impact on the player and are remembered for years to c

Updated February 2, 2023 by Mark Sammut: Why should players settle for petting the dog when they can become a canine? While relatively rare in the grand scheme of things, g ames with animal protagonists are still common enough to guarantee a few releases per year. 2023 is no except

I've probably mentioned this in every review I've done for an arcade-style game but there is one rule I have when approach these titles: I need to know the rules of the game within the first 10 seconds. Think about any great arcade cabinet you've walked up to and instantly loved. For me, it was Galaga . Right when I saw the ship spawn at the bottom of the screen and the bug-shaped ships at the top, I knew what I had to do: destroy all the ships and avoid their attacks. Strategy is something that comes with practice but knowledge of a game’s rules should come natura

Windjammers 2 looks to be a natural step forward for the cult classic. It plays just like how you remember but with some new features that change the back-and-forth gameplay in fun and significant ways. The cartoonish, cel-shaded art style compliments the entire package that evokes the bright and colorful style of the first g

The most noticeable deviation is the meter at the bottom of the screen. In the same vein of a fighting game, the meter is there to power up a super. I didn't have a ton of time with the game but it seemed to engage on the throw after filling the gauge completely. It didn't seem like there was any strategic timing with using the special move since it would just be activated when the gauge was fil

It’s been known since Stray game guide|Https://straycatgame.com/ ’s announcement last June that the game would launch in 2021, but now it’s confirmed that it’s slated to launch sometime in October. This makes it one of two PS5 games that were confirmed to be launching that month during CES, the other being Bethesda and Tango Softworks' supernatural action-adventure game, Ghostwire: Tok

While series developer Intelligent Systems has remained mostly quiet on the situation, in an interview with Eurogamer Germany (which has been translated by Nintendo Everything), series producer Kensuke Tanabe opened up about the decision to move away from more traditional RPG mechanics, which he claims started with the development of Paper Mario: Sticker Star . "When developing Paper Mario: Sticker Star , one of our goals was to move away a bit from the traditional RPG sty

The second ability directly counters lobs. When you notice your opponent going for the log, you can now jump in the air, grab the disc, and throw it back at the opponent. Again, to be honest, I didn't get to try the ability out at the slightest. My opponent never lobbed so I never had the opportunity to try it. However, from what I've seen, it seems to be a good way to fake someone out since the disc spins pretty fast if you can execute the coun

"Nintendo has another RPG series starring Mario and we wanted to distance ourselves from it by making an adventure game with a focus on solving puzzles." Tanabe is referring to AlphaDream's Mario & Luigi series, which is strange considering the developer's closure due to bankruptcy in late 2019. Tanabe could be implying that Nintendo still has plans for the series as a Mario RPG series . Continuing, Tanabe claims, "Even though we’ve stuck to that decision so far, we haven’t decided yet whether or not we will keep doing so in the future. Personally speaking, I want to keep developing Paper Mario games that are both innovative and uniq

Heart Machine’s follow-up to 2016’s Hyper Light Drifter , Solar Ash has players traveling through incredibly stylized worlds and taking down enemies with blindingly fast attacks. Movement in the game looks smooth, with players gliding through environments on futuristic roller blades. Gravity seems to be subjective too, as players can walk across platforms that twist upside down. Not much else has been revealed for Solar Ash but the studio promises unique characters and massive combat sequen
